Fujitsu General Limited

Demonstration Project Begins in New York State, USA

Proving energy-saving potential of heat pump technology for decarbonization

Fujitsu General is participating in the Next Generation HVAC Innovation Challenges 1 organized by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA 2 ). We will install air conditioning systems utilizing our Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF / Multi split air conditioners for small to medium stores and offices ) syste ms in public facilities in the state in order to demonstrate the energy efficiency of heat pump technology sequentially from May 1.

【Purposes】

Currently, the leading HVAC systems in the United States is a combination of whole-house cooling and gas furnace heating. The State of New York has set a goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. To help achieve this goal, they will compare the operating data of our air conditioning system with the current situation to demonstrate our energy saving potential with a view to accelerating carbon neutrality.

【What is Heat Pump Technology?】

A technology that collects heat from the air and moves it to where it is needed. When heating, it collects heat from the air outdoors and moves it indoors. By utilizing the heat already in the air and turning it into more energy through the refrigeration cycle for heating and cooling, heat pumps operate with high energy efficiency, contributing to reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

【Fujitsu General’s Efforts】

We promote “Sustainability Management*3,” a policy that places contributing to the realization of a sustainable society at the core of our business. Our mission is to change the world’s heating culture with our heat pump technology, while pursuing further improvements in energy efficiency with our inverter technology to combat global warming. This demonstration project is expected to encourage the replacement of current systems with heat pump equipment in the USA and will assuredly contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
